Megastar Chiranjeevi recently shared an interesting observation about Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil superstar Vijay, while attending a promotional event for Sigma in Hyderabad. The veteran actor said Jason reminded him strongly of Vijay during the early years of his career.
Chiranjeevi Sees Vijay’s 1990s Look in Jason
Speaking at the event, Chiranjeevi recalled meeting Jason and said he looked remarkably similar to his father during the 1990s. He also jokingly questioned Jason about why he had chosen filmmaking instead of acting.
Jason reportedly told him that writing and direction had interested him for a long time, leading him to pursue filmmaking rather than follow his father into acting.
Jason Sanjay Chooses Direction
Unlike Vijay, who established himself as a leading actor in Tamil cinema, Jason is preparing to enter the industry behind the camera.
His debut film, Sigma, is directed by Jason Sanjay and stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. The film is being produced by Lyca Productions.
Chiranjeevi Points to the Family’s Filmmaking Legacy
Chiranjeevi also connected Jason’s creative interests with his grandparents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar. He noted that Chandrasekhar has directed several films, while Shoba has worked as a writer.
Chiranjeevi said Jason appears to have inherited creative qualities from both sides of the family and expressed hope that he achieves success in filmmaking.
Vijay’s Early Career With His Father
Vijay made his acting debut in 1992 with Naalaiya Theerpu, which was directed by his father, SA Chandrasekhar. His father subsequently directed several of his early films, including Senthoorapandi, Rasigan, Deva and Vishnu.
Those early collaborations played a significant part in Vijay’s journey before he established himself independently as one of Tamil cinema’s leading stars.

Jason Sanjay’s Sigma is a heist film featuring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. The film’s theatrical release is currently scheduled for October 2 after an earlier postponement.
For Jason, the project represents a different kind of debut from his father’s. While Vijay entered the spotlight as an actor, his son is taking his first major step into the Tamil film industry as a director.
