India produced a memorable day in compound archery at the Asian Games 2026, winning all three team gold medals on September 30 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The biggest achievement came in the mixed team event, where Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav defeated South Korea in a tense shoot-off. Their victory also secured India a quota place in the compound mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where the discipline will make its Olympic debut.
Women’s Team Retains Gold
The Indian women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the final.
The Indian trio maintained their composure throughout the contest and successfully defended the gold medal won at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Chikitha and Sahil Win Dramatic Mixed Team Final
The mixed team final against South Korea went down to the wire. India and South Korea were tied at 157-157 after four ends, forcing a shoot-off.
Chikitha and Sahil responded with a combined score of 20 in the decider, while the Korean pair managed 19. The result gave India another gold and, more importantly, the Olympic quota for Los Angeles 2028.
For Chikitha, it was her second gold of the day after the women’s team triumph.
Men’s Team Completes the Golden Sweep
India’s men’s compound team of Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru completed the clean sweep by edging China 238-237 in the final.
The victory meant India collected all three compound team gold medals available at the Games.
A Major Step Towards LA 2028
The mixed team gold carries additional importance because compound mixed team archery will be introduced at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
India’s victory therefore delivered both an Asian Games gold medal and an early qualification quota for the country in the new Olympic event.
India had previously won all five compound archery gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games. The three team victories in Aichi-Nagoya continue that strong run, with the individual events still to come.
India Extends Its Archery Success
The three-gold haul makes compound archery one of India’s major medal contributors at the Asian Games 2026. With Chikitha and Sahil also securing the Olympic quota, the results have added significance beyond the current competition.
India’s archers will now look toward the individual events as the Aichi-Nagoya Games continue.
