The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalised its leadership arrangement for Telangana as part of a major nationwide organisational reshuffle announced on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The appointments were made under the leadership of BJP National President Nitin Nabin and cover state and Union Territory in-charges across the country. The new structure for Telangana is expected to remain in place for the next three years as the party prepares for upcoming local body elections and the next Assembly polls.
Sunil Bansal: Continues as Telangana in-charge. He was first appointed to the role in August 2022 by then national president JP Nadda and oversaw party affairs during the 2023 Assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He retains dual responsibility for West Bengal.
Abhay Patil: Appointed co-in-charge. A BJP MLA from Belagavi South in Karnataka, he previously served as Telangana election in-charge from March 2024, focusing on campaign strategy and grassroots mobilisation.
Rekha Sharma: Appointed co-in-charge. The former chairperson of the National Commission for Women and a Rajya Sabha MP, she becomes the first woman leader to hold a co-in-charge role for Telangana, according to party sources.
Chandrashekhar Tiwari will continue as organisational secretary, ensuring continuity in the party’s organisational machinery.
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao congratulated Bansal, Patil, and Sharma, expressing confidence that under the new leadership the party would strengthen its presence in the state and work towards forming a “double-engine” government.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy also extended his best wishes, noting that the responsibilities reflect the trust placed in their experience and organisational capabilities.
The Telangana arrangement is part of a larger list of state in-charges and co-in-charges announced for 28 states and eight Union Territories. Notable other appointments include Smriti Irani for Chhattisgarh and Haryana, Vinod Tawde for Uttar Pradesh, and Arvind Bhadoria (with Vanathi Srinivasan as co-in-charge) for neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
