Virat Kohli has added another major milestone to his illustrious ODI career, becoming only the second batter in men’s ODI history to cross the 15,000-run mark. Kohli achieved the feat during India’s first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, 2026.
Kohli entered the match needing 59 runs to reach the landmark. He completed the milestone with a boundary off Alzarri Joseph, prompting a standing ovation from the crowd.
The achievement also placed Kohli alongside Sachin Tendulkar, who remains the only other men’s ODI batter to have crossed 15,000 runs. Tendulkar finished his ODI career with 18,426 runs.
Kohli reached 15,000 ODI runs in his 303rd innings, compared with Tendulkar’s 377 innings. This makes Kohli the fastest batter to reach the landmark in terms of innings.
The milestone came during a strong performance in India’s chase against the West Indies. Kohli’s achievement adds another significant chapter to his ODI career as he continues to feature for India in the 50-over format.
The 15,000-run milestone was part of a memorable outing for Kohli in the first ODI. He went on to score 139 runs from 88 balls, including 10 fours and nine sixes, helping India chase down West Indies’ target. He also registered his 55th ODI century during the innings.
India eventually secured an eight-wicket victory, with centuries from Kohli and captain Shubman Gill guiding the chase. The result gave India a 1–0 lead in the ODI series.
Kohli’s 15,000-run landmark adds to a long list of ODI records accumulated throughout his career. His latest achievement also continues the statistical comparison between Kohli and Tendulkar, two of India’s most prominent ODI run-scorers.
