Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has invited suggestions from the public for naming the proposed Mamnoor Airport in Warangal, as the long-pending airport project moves forward.
Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government has completed the required land acquisition and handed over the land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The state government has allocated ₹295 crore for the land acquisition process.
The Chief Minister described the airport as an important development for the Warangal region, saying it could create opportunities in industry, tourism, education, employment and investment. He also appealed to people to suggest an appropriate name for the proposed airport.
The naming appeal has already generated responses from public figures. Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who hails from Warangal, suggested “Rudrama International Airport” and “Kakatiya International Airport”, citing the region’s historical and cultural heritage
Other suggestions have also emerged, including names associated with Warangal’s historical and cultural identity. However, no final name has been announced yet.
The development of the Mamnoor Airport is being closely watched in the erstwhile Warangal region, where residents have been seeking improved air connectivity for several years. The project is expected to strengthen connectivity and potentially support economic activity across the region.
The Union Civil Aviation Ministry had earlier indicated that construction could proceed once the required land was handed over to AAI.
With the land acquisition process completed and the land transferred to AAI, attention is now turning to the next stages of the airport project. The public naming exercise has added another dimension to the development, with suggestions focusing on Warangal’s history, heritage and cultural identity.
