Heavy rains lashed several parts of Hyderabad, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions and difficulties for commuters in some areas. Following the rainfall, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the official machinery to remain on high alert and closely monitor the situation.
The Chief Minister instructed officials of the civic administration, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and police departments to work in coordination and take prompt measures wherever required. Officials were asked to continuously monitor rainfall-related developments and respond to complaints from residents.
The rainfall affected traffic movement in parts of Greater Hyderabad, particularly during peak hours. Water accumulation on roads created difficulties for motorists and commuters, while traffic congestion was reported in some stretches.
Reports indicated that the overflow of stormwater in certain areas contributed to traffic problems. The Sheikhpet flyover area, for instance, witnessed significant congestion after stormwater overflow affected road movement. Commuters travelling from areas such as HITEC City and Gachibowli were among those affected.
Hydra control room also received complaints related to fallen trees and water stagnation at multiple locations, prompting authorities to monitor vulnerable areas and deploy response teams where necessary.
CM Revanth Reddy directed the commissioners of the three municipal corporations in the Greater Hyderabad region, HYDRAA and police commissioners to coordinate closely. The objective is to ensure that rainfall-related problems are identified quickly and that civic and emergency services can respond without delay.
The administration’s focus remains on preventing prolonged waterlogging, managing traffic congestion and ensuring the availability of emergency response personnel and equipment.HYDRAA’s disaster management wing says its Disaster Response Force is equipped for 24/7 rescue, emergency response and flood-management operations. Teams can be positioned near vulnerable waterlogging locations along with dewatering pumps, heavy machinery and rescue boats when required.
The rainfall situation has also prompted weather-related alerts across Telangana. According to reports citing the India Meteorological Department, extremely heavy rainfall was forecast at isolated locations on Wednesday and Thursday, with very heavy rainfall expected at some places later in the week. Such rainfall can increase the possibility of water accumulation in low-lying areas and affect visibility and road conditions.
Hyderabad’s weather forecast also indicates continued rain showers during the week, highlighting the need for commuters to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall.
With further rainfall possible, civic authorities are expected to continue monitoring waterlogging-prone areas, major roads, stormwater drains and other vulnerable locations. Police and traffic personnel may also be required to regulate traffic wherever rain-related disruptions occur.Residents are advised to follow official weather and civic advisories, exercise caution while travelling during heavy downpours and avoid entering waterlogged roads whenever possible.
