Porto Comes in Second
Portugal’s Porto secured the second position, standing out for its strong community atmosphere and affordability. The city combines historic neighbourhoods, cultural attractions, green spaces and access to the sea, making it attractive to younger residents.
Melbourne Ranks Third
Melbourne claimed third place, supported by its highly rated restaurant scene, cultural offerings and neighbourhood life. The Australian city also topped the overall Time Out Best Cities ranking earlier in 2026.
Edinburgh and Shanghai Complete the Top Five
Edinburgh ranked fourth and was the highest-ranked UK city, while Shanghai took fifth. Young residents in Shanghai particularly appreciated its social atmosphere and the ease of meeting new people.
Bangkok Drops But Remains Popular
Bangkok, which topped the Gen Z ranking in 2025, slipped to 10th place in 2026. Despite the drop, Thailand’s capital continues to appeal to young people with its food scene, nightlife, creative communities and relatively accessible lifestyle.
