A new luxury river cruise is set to give travellers another way to explore Vietnam and Cambodia. AmaWaterways has unveiled AmaMaya, a 120-guest ship that will begin sailing the Mekong River in January 2027.
A 120 Guest Mekong Experience
AmaMaya will have 60 staterooms and will join sister ship AmaDara on the Mekong. Its smaller capacity is designed to offer a more intimate cruise experience while allowing travellers to explore destinations along the river.
Exploring Vietnam and Cambodia
The ship will operate seven-night itineraries including Charms of the Mekong and Riches of the Mekong. Routes will connect travellers with destinations across Vietnam and Cambodia, including Phnom Penh, Oudong, Siem Reap and Sa Dec.
Onshore experiences will focus on local communities and traditions. Travellers can visit villages, meet artisans, explore silk-making and other crafts, and discover the Mekong Delta by local boat.
Interiors Inspired by Southeast Asia
AmaMaya’s design takes inspiration from Indochine heritage while giving it a contemporary interpretation. Regional artwork, woven textiles, patterns and decorative details are incorporated into the ship’s interiors.
The idea is to make the ship itself feel connected to the landscapes and cultures passengers encounter along the Mekong.
Regional Dining On Board
Food will be another major part of the experience. AmaMaya will have two dining venues serving Southeast Asian-inspired cuisine, along with The Chef’s Table, which will offer a multi-course tasting experience.
Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dining options will also be available.
Wellness Takes Centre Stage
The new ship is also designed around wellness. It will feature a fitness room, sun deck pool and three massage rooms, while a dedicated wellness host will lead fitness and mindfulness activities.
For passengers, this means the cruise can combine sightseeing with relaxation rather than focusing only on excursions.
A Different Way to See Southeast Asia
The Mekong offers a slower way to experience Vietnam and Cambodia, with opportunities to observe riverside communities, historic sites and everyday life along the water.
With AmaMaya’s debut in January 2027, travellers looking beyond traditional European river cruises will have a new luxury option for discovering Southeast Asia.
