The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved the establishment of four new police commissionerates in the state. The new commissionerates will be headquartered in Rajamahendravaram, Guntur, Tirupati and Kurnool, according to reports on the Cabinet decisions announced on September 23, 2026.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat, where more than 60 agenda items were reportedly discussed. The new commissionerates are part of the government’s plans for police administration and law-and-order management in major urban and surrounding areas.

The decision will expand the commissionerate-based policing structure in Andhra Pradesh. Reports noted that the state currently has police commissionerates in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, with the latest Cabinet decision taking the total number of commissionerate centres to six.
According to reports, the move is aimed at strengthening policing and administrative arrangements in urban areas, particularly as cities and their surrounding regions expand. The commissionerate system generally provides a dedicated structure for policing, traffic management, investigation and other law-and-order responsibilities.Reports on the Cabinet decision also linked the move to the need for modernising police administration in response to population growth and changing urban policing requirements.
Reports have provided additional details about the proposed territorial structure of some of the new commissionerates.The proposed Guntur commissionerate is reported to cover areas including Guntur Urban, Guntur Rural, the Amaravati Capital Region and Tenali, divided into four zones.
The proposed Tirupati commissionerate is reported to include Tirumala and Tirupati along with areas such as Sri City and Srikalahasti, also organised into four zones. The exact administrative arrangements and implementation details will depend on subsequent government orders and police department notifications.
The Cabinet meeting also approved several decisions beyond police administration. According to reports, the government sanctioned ₹1,548.98 crore for infrastructure works in villages of the Amaravati capital region and approved an additional ₹644.98 crore for Amaravati infrastructure-related works. A further ₹661 crore was cleared for Assembly building works.The Cabinet also approved incentives for a proposed My Home Industries greenfield cement unit at Dachepalli and gave approval for a Caterpillar greenfield facility at Sri City, according to reports.
The creation of four additional commissionerates represents an administrative expansion of Andhra Pradesh’s urban policing framework.
