India continued its successful campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday, September 24, with Naorem Roshibina Devi winning a silver medal in wushu and the rowing pair of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan securing a bronze.
Roshibina Devi Claims Third Straight Asian Games Medal
Manipur’s Naorem Roshibina Devi won silver in the women’s 60kg Sanda event after losing 0-2 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the final at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall. The Chinese athlete dominated both rounds with unanimous 5-0 decisions from the judges.
The 25-year-old had reached the final by defeating Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semi-finals. Roshibina’s silver makes her the first Indian wushu athlete to win medals at three successive Asian Games editions:
Bronze at Jakarta 2018
Silver at Hangzhou 2023
Silver at Aichi-Nagoya 2026
She was a late addition to the Indian squad after another athlete was ruled out, and she competed despite reports of flu symptoms. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated her on the achievement.
Rowing Bronze for Satnam Singh and Salman Khan
In rowing, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won bronze in the men’s double sculls final at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course. The Indian pair clocked 6:13.25, finishing behind China’s Yi Xudi and Nie Yide (gold, 6:09.37/6:09.77) and Uzbekistan’s Pavel Sorin and Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov (silver, 6:10.49).
The duo stayed in contention for most of the race before slipping to third in the final stretch. This marked India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the men’s double sculls event. Satnam had previously won a bronze in the men’s quadruple sculls at Hangzhou 2023.
Earlier, Balraj Panwar finished fourth in the men’s single sculls final, narrowly missing a medal.
India’s Medal Tally Update
These results lifted India’s overall medal count at the Games. Reports indicated the tally reached 14 medals (1 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze) following the two podium finishes on Thursday. India remains among the top performers outside the traditional powerhouses of China, Japan, and South Korea.
