The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2026 vote counting began on September 19, with early trends emerging for the four central posts — President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. The counting is being conducted at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium at North Campus.
In the first round of counting, ABVP candidate Yash Dabas was ahead in the presidential contest with 1,305 votes, while NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena had 1,191 votes and AISA-SFI candidate Ananya Raturi had 288 votes. A total of 3,270 votes had been counted in that round. These figures represent early counting trends and are not the final result.
The Vice-President contest also showed an independent candidate, Deepanshu Shokeen, ahead after the first round, while ABVP’s Ishu Maurya and NSUI’s Veer Chatrath were among the candidates in the race. For the Secretary post, ABVP’s Riya Chhawadi was ahead of NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary in the early figures.
The election saw 40.46 per cent voter turnout on September 18, with more than 1.51 lakh students eligible to vote. The polling was conducted in two phases across Delhi University colleges.
The counting process is taking place under heightened security arrangements. The final DUSU results will determine the composition of the university’s central student-union panel for the 2026–27 academic session.
As counting continues, the early figures are expected to change with successive rounds. Therefore, the first-round lead should not be treated as the final outcome of the DUSU election.
