Rajasthan Heat to Ease? Western Disturbance May Bring Rain to Delhi-NCR

October has started on a warm and mostly dry note across northwest India, with parts of Rajasthan recording daytime temperatures in the upper 30s. Delhi-NCR is also experiencing above-seasonal warmth, with maximum temperatures expected to remain around 34–36°C between October 3 and 5.

Rajasthan Continues to See High Temperatures

Western Rajasthan is likely to remain the warmest part of the region in the immediate term. Clear skies and dry air are allowing daytime temperatures to rise, with places such as Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner among the warmer areas.

Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh are also expected to remain largely dry over the next few days.

Rain May Return From October 6

Relief could arrive with a western disturbance expected to move across the western Himalayas around October 6. The system may increase cloud cover and trigger rainfall and thunderstorms over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The weather system is also expected to influence the adjoining plains, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting increased rainfall activity over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab around October 6–7.

Temperatures Could Drop

Rain, cloud cover and cooler air associated with the western disturbance may bring down daytime temperatures across parts of north India.

The change could provide some relief from the persistent October warmth, although weather conditions will vary between locations.

Monsoon Withdrawal Continues

The rainfall shift comes as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal from northern and central India. The IMD has said conditions are favourable for further retreat from parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, signalling India’s transition towards the post-monsoon season.
