India’s Quimcy Dsouza narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the women’s singles teqball event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Dsouza lost the bronze-medal match to Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto in two closely contested sets.
The Indian player fought hard throughout the match, with both sets decided by the smallest possible margin. Sakamoto eventually won 12-11, 12-11, securing the bronze medal while Dsouza finished fourth.
The result came after an impressive campaign from Dsouza in the tournament. She had reached the semifinals in teqball’s debut at the Asian Games. In the semifinal, she lost 1-2 to Indonesia’s Ima Sumaya, ending her hopes of reaching the final but giving her an opportunity to compete for bronze.
Dsouza had also produced a notable result earlier in the competition by defeating Sakamoto in the group stage. The Japanese player was ranked among the leading competitors in the event, making Dsouza’s run to the medal rounds a significant part of India’s teqball campaign.
Teqball made its Asian Games debut in 2026, adding a new sport to the continental competition. The sport combines elements of football and table tennis and is played on a curved table.
India’s teqball campaign ultimately ended without a medal after Dsouza and the Indian mixed-doubles pair also lost their respective bronze-medal matches.
Despite missing the podium, Dsouza’s semifinal appearance marked an important moment for Indian teqball at its first Asian Games appearance.
