Mumbai, October 6, 2026 – Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Tuesday, extending the previous session’s recovery, with the Nifty 50 rising around 0.35% to 22,635.70 and the BSE Sensex gaining approximately 0.34% to 72,630.42 in morning trading.

Banking stocks and Trent were among the key supporters of the gains. Private banks led sectoral advances after several lenders reported positive quarterly business updates on advances and deposits. Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank were notable performers within the banking pack. Retail major Trent surged sharply (reports indicated gains of around 10% or more in early trade) after projecting strong year-on-year revenue growth for the September quarter.

The broader market also participated, with mid-cap and small-cap indices trading in the green. Global cues provided some support following a technology-led rally on Wall Street, while easing crude oil prices from recent highs helped improve risk sentiment. Investors, however, remained cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision due on Wednesday.

Previous close levels stood at 22,555.75 for the Nifty 50 and 72,382.47 for the Sensex after a solid rebound on Monday. Foreign institutional investors had been net sellers in the prior session, while domestic institutions provided buying support.

Sectoral trends were mixed in early trade, with financials and private banks outperforming, while auto, IT and some consumer-related indices lagged. Market participants continue to watch global bond yields, crude prices, FII flows and the outcome of the RBI policy meeting for further direction.
