Congress Leadership Calls Punjab Strategy Meeting as 2027 Assembly Election Preparations Gather Pace

The Congress leadership is stepping up its organisational preparations in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge has called a meeting of senior state leaders in New Delhi on October 31 to discuss election planning and internal coordination.

The consultation is expected to bring together Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, party MPs and other senior functionaries.

Leadership Coordination Remains a Priority

The meeting follows an earlier discussion in Chandigarh on October 26, attended by AICC general secretary K. C. Venugopal and other senior leaders.

During the discussions, the party leadership reportedly stressed the importance of organisational discipline and collective decision-making.

Congress wants its Punjab unit to work through a coordinated leadership structure rather than allowing individual leaders to project separate political positions.

Rahul Gandhi’s Sangrur Programme

The latest meeting also comes ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Insaaf Rally in Sangrur on November 4.

The rally is expected to provide the party with an opportunity to raise public issues and strengthen its political outreach before the next Assembly election.

Congress leaders have identified unemployment, drug-related challenges, law and order and Punjab’s financial situation as important issues for public engagement.

Party Looks to Strengthen Its State Organisation

With the 2027 elections approaching, Congress is focusing on building a stronger organisational network and improving coordination among its senior leaders.

The outcome of the Delhi meeting could shape the party’s political strategy and campaign preparations in Punjab.

Maintaining unity within the state leadership and connecting with voters on local concerns are likely to remain important challenges for the Congress in the months ahead.
