Rashmika’s Tribute Through Fashion
Rashmika Mandanna paid tribute to legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi through her fashion choices at the launch event of MSA Legacy On Screen, the upcoming biographical film in which she plays the iconic singer.
The Signature ‘MS Blue’ Saree
For her first look, Rashmika wore a deep blue Kanjivaram silk saree inspired by Subbulakshmi’s signature stage style. The shade gradually moved towards royal purple, while gold zari and temple-inspired motifs added a traditional touch.
The saree was from Aikyatha’s Suswaram Raga Edition and was designed around the classical raga Shankarabharanam.
Traditional Jewellery Completes the Look
Rashmika kept the styling close to Subbulakshmi’s timeless aesthetic. She paired the saree with gold jhumkas, traditional bangles, a nath and a hair ornament.
Her neatly tied bun, decorated with fresh white jasmine flowers, added another classic South Indian touch.
Why ‘MS Blue’ Is So Iconic
M.S. Subbulakshmi became closely associated with richly woven blue Kanjivaram sarees, so much so that the distinctive shade became popularly known as “MS Blue.”
Rashmika’s choice therefore went beyond a fashion statement, reflecting the visual identity of the legendary singer she is preparing to portray on screen.
Rashmika’s Second Kanjivaram Look
The actor also appeared in another traditional look featuring a wine-and-orange Kanjivaram silk saree. The design combined geometric patterns, gold zari and traditional motifs with an ivory blouse.
The contrasting colours gave the classic silhouette a more contemporary feel.
A Tribute That Connects Fashion and Music
Rashmika’s saree choices highlight how closely Indian classical music and traditional fashion have been connected. By recreating elements of Subbulakshmi’s signature appearance, the actor brought the singer’s iconic visual style into the spotlight once again.
Her looks also set the tone for the upcoming biopic, which will see Rashmika step into one of Indian music’s most recognisable personalities.
