A 53-year-old truck driver from Punjab has won Dh500,000, approximately ₹1.3 crore, in Abu Dhabi Big Ticket’s Series 291 draw. Kulwant Singh, who has lived and worked in Dubai for 18 years, plans to use his share of the prize to support his family and invest in their home.
A Win After Two Years of Trying
Kulwant lives in Dubai’s Jebel Ali area and has been participating in the lucky draw with a group of five friends for around two years. He first learned about the lottery through online videos and eventually decided to try his luck.
For the winning entry, he selected a ticket at random, without knowing it would bring such significant news.
Sharing the Prize With Friends
The win was a group effort, with Kulwant and his friends regularly purchasing tickets together. The prize will be shared among the group, making the result a collective moment of happiness rather than an individual windfall.
Kulwant said the group’s regular participation made the news especially exciting.
Family Comes First
Despite the excitement of winning, Kulwant already has practical plans for the money. He wants to help his family and put part of his winnings towards their home.
His decision reflects a common priority among many overseas workers: using financial opportunities to improve living conditions and provide greater security for loved ones.
Other Indian Expats Also Win
Kulwant was among five Indian expatriates who won a combined Dh1.95 million in consolation prizes in the same series.
Among them was Muhammed Ijas C., a 30-year-old engineer from Kerala living in Ajman. He won Dh100,000 after choosing a number inspired by his son’s birthdate and birth year. He said he hopes to use his share for his son.
A Memorable Moment for Indian Workers Abroad
For Indians working overseas, unexpected financial gains can offer an opportunity to support families and work towards long-term goals. Kulwant’s story stands out not only for the size of the prize but also for his intention to use it for his family’s future.
His win has turned a routine monthly ticket purchase into a milestone for him and his friends.
