A new wellness experience has arrived on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. Tsowa Safari Island has opened Tsowa River Spa, a nature-inspired retreat designed to combine relaxation, personalised treatments and the peaceful surroundings of the African wilderness.
Located on a private island upstream from Victoria Falls, the spa adds another dimension to the lodge’s luxury safari experience, giving visitors an opportunity to unwind between wildlife excursions and river adventures.
A Spa Surrounded by Nature
Tsowa River Spa is set among riverside trees within Zambezi National Park. Rather than a conventional indoor wellness facility, it draws on the surrounding landscape to create a calm setting where guests can slow down and reconnect with nature.
The island lodge accommodates a maximum of 18 guests across nine tents, offering a relatively intimate experience away from busy tourist areas.
Treatments Inspired by Natural Ingredients
The spa uses products from two South African skincare brands, Healing Earth and Esse.
Healing Earth products feature minerals and botanical ingredients and are used for body, hand and foot treatments. Esse, known for its organic and vegan skincare range, supplies products for facial treatments.
Each treatment begins with a foot-cleansing ritual using cool stones in warmer weather and warm stones when temperatures are cooler. This introductory ritual adds a distinctive touch to the spa experience.
A Different Kind of Safari Holiday
Tsowa Safari Island offers more than traditional wildlife viewing. Guests can take guided game drives, explore the island on foot, go canoeing and enjoy sunset cruises along the Zambezi River.
Birdwatching is another attraction, with opportunities to look for species such as Pel’s fishing owl and the African finfoot. After a day outdoors, visitors can retreat to the spa or relax beside the river.
Designed Around Sustainability
The lodge operates using solar power and does not rely on generators. Its tents are spaced among the riverside trees, and the property was developed without removing mature trees from the site.
These measures complement the destination’s emphasis on nature and low-impact hospitality, although visitors should still follow local wildlife and conservation guidelines during their stay.
Exploring Beyond the Island
Tsowa Safari Island is positioned for travellers who want to combine a secluded wilderness stay with visits to major regional attractions. Victoria Falls is accessible for a day trip, while Botswana’s Chobe National Park is another possible excursion depending on travel arrangements.
Guests reach the island by boat after travelling through Zambezi National Park, making the journey part of the overall safari experience.
Wellness Meets Wilderness
The opening of Tsowa River Spa reflects growing interest in holidays that combine relaxation with outdoor experiences. Instead of filling every day with activities, guests can balance wildlife encounters with quiet time in a natural setting.
For travellers seeking a luxury African escape, the new spa offers another reason to consider a stay on the Zambezi, where wellness and wildlife come together in a secluded riverside environment.
