Punjab Congress Prepares for 2027 Polls, Sets Rahul Gandhi Rally in Sangrur

Senior leaders say recent meetings focused on coordination, local feedback and strengthening party units ahead of the election campaign.

CHANDIGARH  Punjab Congress has begun sharpening its organisational preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, with senior leaders K. C. Venugopal and Sachin Pilot holding discussions with party representatives. The party has announced that Rahul Gandhi will address a rally in Sangrur on November 4, an event leaders describe as part of its early campaign outreach.

Venugopal, the All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of organisation, met elected representatives, MPs, former legislators, district Congress committee presidents and other senior functionaries. Discussions covered election planning, feedback from local leaders and coordination among different levels of the organisation.

Speaking after the meetings on October 26, Venugopal expressed confidence that leaders would work towards a shared objective. Pilot, who oversees Congress affairs in Punjab, described the exchanges as open and said the party had discussed plans for strengthening its state and local units.

The Sangrur event, promoted by Congress leaders as a ‘Hisab Maango’ rally, is expected to provide a platform for the party to present its campaign themes. Leaders have criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on issues including law and order, unemployment and drug-related problems. Those criticisms reflect the opposition’s position in the state’s political debate.

The meetings indicate an effort to align senior leadership with elected representatives and district-level workers before campaign activity increases. The next test will be how the party turns its discussions into clear responsibilities, local engagement and consistent messaging across Punjab.
